How to Complete a Reversal CCTV Inspection
Last updated: July 17, 2025
When you encounter an obstruction or blockage that prevents completing a pipe inspection from one direction, you'll need to perform a reversal by inspecting from the opposite manhole. Here's how to handle this situation:
Steps for Handling a Reversal
In the original inspection where you encounter the obstruction, add an MSA (Miscellaneous Survey Abandoned) code at the point where you cannot continue.
Create a new inspection for the reversal by either:
Using "Prefilled from Previous" to copy over most header information
Creating a new blank inspection
In the new inspection header, make sure to:
Switch the upstream and downstream manhole IDs
Change the direction to "Upstream" if inspecting from the downstream manhole
Important Notes
Reversals will result in two separate inspection records - they are not merged into one
The "Reverse Setup" field is typically left blank, as the direction is indicated in the inspection naming convention
You can use the "Prefilled from Previous" option to save time by copying over most header information from the original inspection
Best Practice: When doing a reversal, complete the new inspection immediately after the original one while you're still on site to ensure full coverage of the pipe segment.
